Delight in a stay at this luxurious loft apartment for two at Allensmore, close to the border between Wales and England. Sleeping just two guests, the one-bedroom hideaway makes a perfect retreat for couples eager to get out and about in Herefordshire and Bannau Brycheiniog, also known as the Brecon Beacons National Park. Nestled with the enchanting grounds of the owner’s own home, the exquisite apartment can also accommodate two children or an extra adult by special request.

Leave your walking boots, wellies or bikes under the timber shelter and make your way up the stairs to your gorgeous holiday haven. Emerge in a light-filled, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which has an immaculate, stylish finish and vaulted ceiling. Settle in the elegant lounge with a cup of tea or a glass of wine to watch TV, read your books or chat about your day. The sofa here can be pulled out and transformed into an extra bed. Whip up tasty meals with the fresh Welsh and Herefordshire produce you have bought on your trips out, then enjoy a tranquil meal together. When day turns to night, wander through to the lavishly decorated king-size bedroom to indulge in a truly restful sleep. There is also a contemporary-style shower room, with rainfall shower, where you can refresh yourselves before or after your many excursions. Spend sunny days relaxing out in your private area of the garden, where you can sizzle supper on the BBQ or sit out around the fire pit as the sun sets.

Venture 12.5 miles to Hatterall Ridge and pick up the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path, which follows much of the border between England and Wales. Plan a day out to the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye, 17 miles away. Wander around the colourful shops, hire canoes on the river and venture into Bannau Brycheiniog from here.

A real gem of a find. Everything we could have needed was there and easy to find. Apple Tree Loft was clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped. The generous welcome pack was a lovely surprise and our hosts were warm and friendly without being intrusive. A real home from home.
