Book a big-group getaway at this historic Welsh longhouse. Enjoying a tranquil location close to Llanwrtyd Wells, it offers spacious accommodation for a party of 12 with interiors full of heritage and home-from-home comfort.

Approached through rolling hills and remote countryside, this impressive longhouse is one of only two properties on a quiet, no-through road. Step through the front door into the large entrance hall and, alongside an original dark oak staircase, there’s plenty of room to remove outdoor clothing and shoes. The heart of every country home, the kitchen here combines traditional charm with every modern must-have and is designed with socialising in mind, its exposed brickwork and original beams setting the scene for companionable cooking and chatter. Off the kitchen, a handy utility room has laundry equipment, and a shower room adds further convenience. When it’s time to eat, the dining room has a flagstone floor, large wood burner and two tables to seat everyone, plus sofas and chairs where you can unwind after your meal. There’s more space to stretch out in the separate sitting room, which has a TV and DVD. When it’s time to sleep, the first floor has four comfortable bedrooms, all tastefully decorated in soothing shades. The king-size room has exposed ceiling beams and an en-suite shower room with WC, and a generous double room has lovely garden views plus an en-suite shower room. There is also a cosy twin bedroom and a fourth room with a single bed. There’s a family bathroom on this level, and a separate shower room. Continue up a further flight of steep, cottage-style stairs to a large attic bedroom with sloping ceilings, a king-size bed and en-suite shower room. The adjoining room has an additional single bed and plenty of space for younger guests to play or chill-out in front of the TV. The final bedroom – reached via a further flight of steep stairs, is a king-size with sloping ceilings. Get everyone outside where there’s a patio with outdoor furniture and a BBQ. Spread out blankets on the wide expanse of lawn for picnics or stargazing.

Enjoy long country walks from your doorstep, or drive into Llanwrtyd Wells (3 miles) for a host of independent stores, welcoming cafes and pubs. The town is home to a number of unusual events including the legendary World Bog Snorkelling Championship. Explore the surrounding countryside on the super-scenic Heart of Wales railway line – several of the stations along the 121-mile route are cared for by enthusiastic volunteers from the local communities.

What a hidden gem. An incredibly cosy traditional farmhouse, with just the most magnificent vista down the valley and into the hills. Kitchen was well equipped. Great for a group getaway, lots of lovely walking and wild swimming near by. Everyone we have met and spoken to, not just our hosts, but the people in town were so friendly. We really enjoyed our stay in the house. It is very spacious, comfortable and very well equipped. The location is lovely with great views across the hills, and plenty of nice walks from the door, or within a fairly short drive. The owners were really helpful and we enjoyed learning a bit about the history of the house and the area.
