The area is a haven for walkers, with highlights including the Skirrid, Sugar Loaf, and Offa’s Dyke Path. The villages of Pandy (2.5 miles) and Longtown (7 miles) offer traditional village pubs, and further afield you’ll find the foodie town of Abergavenny (9 miles).

A gravelled track across a meadow leads to the beautiful barn conversion, featuring old stone walls and wooden shutters. Inside, discover an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a vaulted ceiling, exposed timber frame, and plenty of glass framing rural views. The kitchen area has everything needed for a self-catering break, and the central dining table provides the perfect setting for memorable mealtimes. A step leads to the raised lounge area, where you can unwind next to the wood burner and watch the Smart TV/DVD. Step down into the hallway, which leads to a king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room. There’s also a family bathroom on this level. Stairs lead to the twin bedroom in the eaves and a relaxing mezzanine area overlooking the living space. Outside, the cottage has a sunny patio with furniture and a BBQ and an enclosed lawn that’s ideal for children and dogs.

Abergavenny is a vibrant town with independent shops and eateries. The town hosts regular markets, making it a great place for picking up local produce for your supper. After a morning of retail therapy, take a stroll along the towpath of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. Alternatively, journey to Llangorse Lake (27 miles) for an afternoon on the water. History enthusiasts will enjoy a trip to LLanthony Priory (10 miles) to admire the atmospheric ruins sitting in the shadows of the Black Mountains.

This cottage is perfect and had everything we needed (and more). We were there in a heatwave and as a result spent much more time in the cottage than normal which was no hardship. The design of the barn, huge wooden shutters and effective fan meant we were able to keep relatively cool. Comfortable beds, great shower, fast WiFi, secluded, private Read moreand dog proof garden (unless your dog can climb a stock proof fence). There are no footpaths immediately accessible from the property so sadly you need to drive wherever you go but there are fabulous walks a short distance away. We hope to return to do the walking the hot weather denied us. Liz the owner was great, she popped in to welcome us and then left us to enjoy our holiday. She kindly messaged us with information of how we could access the river so that the dog could cool off. The welcome pack included fresh flowers, herbs and home produced eggs. Highly recommended. A beautifully converted barn in a stunning location with a lovely big (and properly dog-secure) garden. We received a very warm welcome once again from Ashley, and the groceries and fizz went down well. The property is very comfortable, with wonderful underfloor heating - great if you tend to have cold feet. Its position is commanding and very peaceful: rolling countryside, trees and grazing sheep all present and correct. A very happy revisit.

Stunning and very comfortable barn in a fabulous location. Great for dark skies too. Secure garden for the dog but would not be good for a sheep reactive dog as sheep sometimes in the next field.

Loved our stay so much we booked for the following year. One of the few places I have stayed at that is as comfortable as my own home. Also there are not many places I have stayed at where the quality of the outside space matches the inside space. Very peaceful and had a lovely relaxing stay.
