Offering a tranquil getaway just outside of the Brecon Beacons National Park is this charming, traditionally styled cottage, perfect for families. With exposed beams, sloping ceilings and a impressive fireplace, all dating back to the 18th century, you’ll fall in love with its charm. Literary lovers will be able to take trips to the bookshop town of Hay-on-Wye (15 miles), where independent shops and restaurants and a rich culture offer a friendly welcome.

Small yet perfectly formed, the living room is filled with sumptuous sofas around the wood burner creating a cosy space for the family to gather around. Offering a larger reception area is the open-plan living room and diner with a framed panoramic window view and traditional country style. With seating for all the family on both the sofas and around the oak dining table, this space is incredibly versatile for evenings spent playing board games, feasting or sharing memories with one another. Continuing into the kitchen, you’ll find a wonderfully styled space with a calming colour palette. Here you can rustle up snacks and meals at all times of the day to ensure you’re all fuelled for your next adventure. Upstairs you’ll find the three bedrooms, two of which feature tasteful twin beds, perfect for adults and children, whilst the final room features a delightful double bed. Outside, the garden is filled with mature plants and enjoys far-reaching views of luscious green landscapes filled with wildlife which can be enjoyed from the picnic tables for an enjoyable afternoon.

Whilst Hay-on-Wye is a must-visit for those with a passion for books, Hereford (8 miles) is a fantastic location for those fascinated by local history. Hereford Cathedral is just one example of the places you can visit to learn about the past, being home to the largest surviving mediaeval map of the world, as well as The Black and White House Museum. It’s also known for its cider, countryside and castles, so there is a little something for everyone who visits.

The cottage is just as described - we had all we needed for the week and we were comfortable and warm - a minor issue we had with toaster was quickly remedied by the owner who was very helpful and friendly. The views from the cottage and the garden are just breath taking - we saw several Kites hovering for prey and had visits over the fence from thRead moree horses in the next field - the pub in Dorstone is about 3 miles away and very friendly with good food - we all enjoyed our stay very much Hide
