Dating back to the Victorian era, this traditional lodge lies just half a mile north of the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye. Offering cosy accommodation for up to four guests, the cottage retains a wealth of original features including flagstone floors, wooden floorboards, and oak doors, making this a characterful retreat for couples and smaller families. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, this former gatehouse is an ideal base for walkers, nature lovers and cyclists exploring the glorious countryside of a stunning part of the England/Wales border.

Stepping inside this sweet and relaxing cottage, the cosy lounge has comfortable seating and a welcoming wood burner, offering an ideal space to cuddle up and watch a movie or chat about the day’s adventures. The handsome and light-filled dining room is perfect for sharing delicious family meals which you can cook in the bright and fully equipped kitchen. Exploring this pretty cottage further, there’s a delightful bathroom and two elegantly styled bedrooms accessed via a few steps: a cheery king-size room and a comfortable twin. The cottage is surrounded by a lovely large garden with a big lawn and a terrace with outdoor furniture, providing a charming space to sit out and admire the rural views as you enjoy a morning coffee.

Hay-on-Wye is known for its annual literature festival and a wide choice of antiquarian and second-hand bookshops, alongside an array of galleries, pubs, and restaurants. The town is also home to the 17th-century mansion house Hay Castle, and the popular Globe arts centre. Hay sits along the north-eastern tip of the Brecon Beacons National Park, offering miles of breathtaking walks and bike trails. There are plenty of local attractions including Craswall Priory, Arthur’s Stone, Snodhill Castle, Llangorse Lake and Pwll y Rach Nature Reserve, all within 13 miles.

Very disappointing property. Furnishings shabby and looked like a job lot from a house clearance. Very little comfort in the place and visitors are not made to feel welcome and valued. After a very long drive to reach the cottage there were 3 teabags in a jar and a few coffee sachets, but not even a pint of milk to be able to make a cup of tea, sRead moreurely an essential for a welcoming host. If necessary build the cost of a pint of milk into house rental cost! There were information leaflets, (many out of date) such that are available at tourist information centres, emergency numbers, instructions for the cooker etc. but no information of the sort that comes from personal local knowledge. The property is in a lovely location on the edge of Hay on Wye and just a short walk from the centre, but of course that is not an amenity provided by the property owner and comes free of charge. Our feelings were that the owner wants the rental money but is not willing to give much in return. We left Friday morning instead of Saturday, just wanted to get home to some comfort. Hide

Really lovely cottage, perfect situation surrounded by fields with gorgeous views. The bed was so comfortable, the house well-equipped and we had a really great few days. We will definitely be back!

The cottage is very quirky, reflecting its age and former use. The weather was mixed during our stay, so we didn't get to sit out in the garden, but we did see plenty of wildlife around. It is well provided with cutlery, crockery and pans; also books and jigsaws for those quieter moments. The wi-fi signal was good and, as stated, it was a just shorRead moret walk to the Co-op and the town. If you don't like walking up hills, use the river footpath going in. Hide

Fabulous place, everything you need close to hand, would have loved to stay longer and will be looking to return. Fantastic location... just had to remember to duck for first few minutes, people were shorter way back when the Lodge was built.

Lovely old Lodge surrounded by fields. Every window has a view. Great size garden handy for your dog, not fully secure missing bit of fencing. Great location, walk into Hay, drive to so many places within half an hour to an hour. Hereford, Brecon, Ross on Wye, Leominster just to name a few. Big Co Op supermarket down the road, very handy.

We had a great stay at Lower Moor Lodge. The garden and views were fantastic and the location and convenience couldn't be better with a co-op a few minutes walk away and Hay On Wye just a few minutes further. We had a lovely 3-night stay at this cottage. A perfect location, surrounded by quiet countryside, but only a short stroll into the centre of Hay-on-Wye. The cottage was full of character and really comfortable, and it was great to be able to relax in front of a real fire after a day out walking.
