Some of the best walking in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons is right outside your door, and it’s just a 5-mile drive through the national park to Hay-on-Wye, famous for its bookshops. Head 18 miles in the opposite direction and you’ll reach Abergavenny, or go west for 16 miles to Brecon.
