The mountains meet the coastline here and the area is a haven for walkers – pick up the Welsh Coast Path and stroll 4 miles to the pretty town of Tywyn, a foodies’ delight with a promenade that’s the perfect place for dolphin spotting. Heritage steam engines transport passengers from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol, buried deep in the mountains above Abergynolwyn – the 7-mile journey passes through ancient meadows and woodlands within sight of Cadair Idris. For adventures from your doorstep, the Panorama Walk is a 4-mile trail that will take you high above Aberdyfi, with views of the estuary and, on the opposite side, Borth – home to Ceredigion’s longest beach.
