Situated in the heart of a picturesque rural village, this adorable 17th-century thatched cottage has been sympathetically restored to offer relaxing accommodation, perfect for couples and smaller families exploring the idyllic countryside along the northern fringes of the Wales/England border. Overlooking the tranquil village mere, the cottage features original timber beams, exposed brickwork, underfloor heating and a welcoming wood burner, making this a cosy retreat for up to four guests. An ideal base for eager walkers, climbers, cyclists and nature lovers, this traditional cottage has been beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated to provide a wonderfully relaxing holiday home.

The cottage has a delightful lounge with views towards the mere, a beamed ceiling, comfortable seating and a Smart TV, perfect for relaxing together at the end of a fabulous day out. The central dining parlour features oak beams and a wood burner set in a characterful inglenook, with a cheerful dining table ideal for sharing all your favourite dishes which you can prepare in the stylishly designed kitchen. The shower room is also on the ground floor. An oak staircase leads up to the first floor and directly into a beautiful en-suite twin bedroom with wooden beams. This room leads through to the charming super-king-size bedroom; both bedrooms have top quality linen, with bath robes provided. Outside, the pretty garden overlooks the mere and features plenty of outdoor furniture, a delightful spot for tranquil breakfasts or a glass of wine in the evening.

The quaint and friendly village of Hanmer makes a wonderful base for exploring the beautiful countryside of Clwyd, Shropshire and Cheshire, with Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Chester all within 30 miles. Nearby Whitchurch (7 miles) is home to Whitchurch Waterways Country Park, with other local attractions including Erddig, Shropshire Falconry, BeWILDerwood Cheshire and Alderford Lake, all within 12 miles.

It was such a lovely and comfy cottage. We had the most peaceful and relaxing time. The village shop at the corner was very convenient. A welcome cake and supplies in fridge, supplied by our gracious host were an extra bonus. Will definitely return here.

The cottage was stunning, immaculate and so cosy. We had a lovely warm welcome from Lady Hanmer who met us on arrival. The cottage had everything we needed, we even had a homemade lemon cake waiting for us. The location is breath taking, overlooking the lake and there's the cutest shop/post office and the church is gorgeous, we loved seeing it lit Read moreup at night from the bedroom window. Absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The welcome could not have been friendlier. Plenty of wood for cosy log fires and the cottage is fully equipped and decorated to an exceptional standard. So many interesting places to visit, even in mid February. We had a lovely holiday at Magpie Cottage. The owner is very helpful and friendly. The cottage is immaculately clean, comfortable and well equipped. A log barning stove is a bonus. Lovely and peaceful area with a beautiful view of the Mere and right next to the post office and a little shop. We would definitely visit again and recommend to friends.

We had a great stay at Magpie Cottage. Very homely with lovely personal touches. Loved the log burner, comfy armchair and settee, big bed and excellent shower, to name a few. Lots of thoughtful extras, books, magazines, bacon, bread etc and an excellent cake from the Post Office next door. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the view of the MerRead moree, the sunsets were beautiful. Very peaceful and quite. Everyone in the village were warm and friendly. A really excellent Cottage, lovely quiet location in Hanmer Village. It was like going back to what I imagine the 1950s was like. The owner Lady Hanmer was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The cottage is just across a very quiet road from the Mere which is perfect for swimming and Whitchurch is a short drive away. We were wonderfully surprised by the quiet and beauty although the cottage is next to an intersection...very quiet in the hamlet rather than a village. A 10-step jaunt to the little store was convenient for a daily paper or milk or treats. And friendliness abounded.
