Set high in the foothills of the Sugar Loaf, this restful bolthole for six places you within rolling scenery with Abergavenny just 2 miles below for shops, markets and a good choice of places to eat. The setting does much of the work here: straight from the door, you can pick up routes towards the Sugar Loaf summit, follow grassy tracks across the lower slopes or head into the surrounding valleys for longer walks that are backed with Usk Valley and Black Mountains views. For a dose of local history, visit the Blaenavon World Heritage Site and the Big Pit National Coal Museum, both within 8.5 miles, or spend time in Abergavenny exploring castles, medieval mansions, and Roman remains. This well-loved foodie town is a fitting place to round off the day, with gastro pubs, traditional inns and welcoming country pubs to choose from.

Drive up to this stone barn and feel instantly transported into holiday mode. This traditional Welsh cottage pairs arrow-slit windows and original features with breathtaking 360-degree views across the Brecon Beacons. This converted treasure is heated with an air source heat pump, and benefits from sheep’s wool insulation and a breathable limecrete floor. Tear yourself away from the views, and you’ll be greeted with a spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner boasting oak beams and contemporary furniture. The lounge is cosy, with a wood burner and a TV, while the kitchen on the opposite side of the room is superbly equipped with a range cooker and all the essentials for stress-free meals. A large oak dining table sits in the corner of the room, and a utility room finishes off the ground floor. Stairs from the open-plan room lead up to the first floor, where you can drift off in one of two cosy bedrooms with ample storage a double and a twin bedroom. These two characterful bedrooms have access to a bathroom with a gorgeous roll top cast-iron bath. The final bedroom is accessible and entered via the front courtyard and features antique furniture, a beamed ceiling, and a king-size bed. Finishing this is the en-suite wet room with WC. Please note there is a ramped entry to the main barn from the courtyard.

Wander outside, and discover a front courtyard with dining furniture, benches and spectacular vistas of the Sugar Loaf mountain. For wildlife enthusiasts there are barn owls, roe deer and orchids within the surrounding meadows. Fire up the BBQ on sunny days and enjoy a game of table tennis or table football in the old byre.
