Exuding charm from every room with quirky features to make you smile, this quaint cottage in rural Wales is a wonderful retreat for couples or small families with a dog. Perfectly located for avid walkers, the much-loved routes of the Offa’s Dyke footpath on the England/Wales border and the Severn Way are both accessible within a mile of the village.

As you step into the property, there is a small set of steps down from the garden into the entrance hall which leads through to the living room, down a further set of steps. The cosy space is furnished with a two-seater sofa, an armchair and a warming wood burner set into an exposed stone feature fireplace creating a lovely environment in which to relax in the evenings. Next door is the kitchen/diner, traditionally styled with a Belfast sink and exposed beams across the ceiling with a table and four chairs for dining. Upstairs, is the smaller of the two bedrooms with a single bed, decorated in earthy tones, as well as the shower room. Up a further set of narrow stairs is the master bedroom with a striking four-poster bed, a decorative cast-iron fireplace and a chaise lounge. Outside is a pretty south-facing cottage garden with seating so that you can enjoy the peaceful location with privacy.

The local village of Montgomery can be found less than half a mile away, up a gentle hill and here, you’ll find a small selection of independent shops and eateries, including a Michelin-starred restaurant for a special treat. Take the opportunity to visit the ruins of Montgomery Castle, located high up on a hill which offers panoramic countryside views. Powis Castle and Garden is a fantastic National Trust property to visit at all times of year to see the changing seasons – the castle itself rises high above the 17th-century Italianate terraces and Edwardian formal garden, a beautiful sight to behold.

This is the second time I've rented this wonderful cottage. For me a perfect location for cycling and walking with the added bonus of The Dragon Hotel for food and drinks. The local Spar shop will keep you in the essentials for the stay. Bunners hardware store in Montgomery is from another era, easy to spend too much time and money in there.

Fiddlers Cottage is a beautiful cottage, the owner went beyond to fit a stairgate for our toddler and the highchair was very useful. It is in a perfect location in the village and the parking directly outside was handy. The main bedroom was absolutely stunning with the 4 poster bed. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend to others.

Lovely cottage within walking distance of local shops, chip shop, restaurants, pub and the castle. The local Spar is well stocked for essentials and local produce. There are larger supermarkets a short drive away. Theres a walk just down the hill going out of town around 2 small lakes, which was great for the dog. This is through farmland wiRead moreth grazing sheep so leads are essential. Nice rural location to explore other parts of mid-Wales and beyond. If you have a car you can easily get around. The Llanfair-Welshpool railway isnt too far away and was a lovely way to spend half a day. Cottage itself is ideal for 2 people. It warms up quickly with the heaters and the log burner is available for chillier nights. If youre after a chilled out place to stay, this is ideal! Hide

Character cottage, full of charm, in the heart of historic Montgomery. Beautifully renovated to provide all mod cons in a traditional cottage. We had a great weekend in this old cottage, visiting 'old' friends and old haunts!

It is suitable for a couple plus one (one double bed and one single) and we used it as a base whilst walking the central sections of the Offa's Dyke Path. Lovely cottage, in great position and very well equiped. We used the cottage and the town as a base for a walking holiday and some of the walks could be undertaken from the cottage. Food good value at The Dragon and dog friendly in the bar. Montgomery itself was a delight. All in all nothing to detract from the cottage or the location.
