October Half Term and Halloween happenings in Brecon Beacons and Mid Wales
Here are a few notions of what’s on for self-catering visitors in Mid Wales and Aberystwyth cottages over half term.
Cantref Adventure Farm near Brecon and Builth Wells will be hosting a frightfully good Spooktacular Half Term with lots of fun spooky surprises from 26 October-3 November. Events for Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye visitors include a welcome to Sunday Best at Tretower Court and Castle near Crickhowell on 20 October. Talk to the cook, try a craft, handle weapons, or listen to C15th pop music! Activities around Rhayader and the Elan Valley include guided walks, Autumn Antics in the Elan Valley from 26 October-3 November, and the Great Elan Valley World Star Count on the 26th.
If you’re staying near Newtown and Llanidloes, performances at The Hafren theatre include Stones on 22 October, the comedy play Boeing Boeing on the 24th, The Jive Aces on the 25th, and A Pinch of Pickle, a Whisk of Wise for children on the 26th. A Behind the Scenes Walk take place at Powis Castle near Welshpool on 23 October, when visitors can join the garden staff as they look at work in progress and go into areas not normally seen by regular visitors. Plenty going in the town for all ages at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and you’ll also find Halloween Ghost Trains on the Vale of Rheidol Railway departing from Aberystwyth station from 31 October-2 November. Visitors to Machynlleth and the Dyfi Valley can try Stargazing at RSPB Ynyshir Nature Reserve on 29 October. Or take a Halloween Ghost Tour by underground boat at King Arthur’s Labyrinth on the 31st!
