Some of the extensive number of steam Heritage Railways in Wales will be holding major events in 2014.
Wednesday 24 September will be very special day on the Talyllyn Railway on the Cambrian coast at Tywyn when they celebrate the 150th birthday of their first steam locomotive No 1 - “Talyllyn”.
The dates for the Llangollen Railway’s Spring Steam Gala are Friday 4th to Sunday 6th April. This gala is dedicated to the Croes Newydd loco shed in Wrexham, which used to supply all the motive power for the line. Special appearances will include (subject to availability) GWR 'Mogul' 5322 and BR Pannier Tank 1638.
The Welshpool & Llanfair Railway’s most intensive service of the year will operate during their Annual Steam Gala on Saturday and Sunday 30 & 31. With all their working engines in steam, the event includes sales stands and extra attractions and coincides with the nearby "Garden Railways" exhibition.
The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways will be marking Sixty Years of Preservation with a four day event from Friday 2 May to Monday 5 May and the Welsh Highland will be holding another of their ‘Super-Power Weekends’ from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 September.
The Llanberis Railway’s Steam Gala (Saturday and Sunday 5 & 6 July) will include a rare chance to ride behind the National Slate Museum's "Una", reunited with her ex- stable mate "Britomart" from the Ffestiniog Railway. The Vivian incline behind Gilfach Ddu station will be demonstrated in fully working mode.
