This attractive detached cottage sits in enclosed gardens at the side of a quiet country lane near Brithdir and Torrent Walk, about 3 miles east of Dolgellau and surrounded by the superb scenery of the south Snowdonia National Park. It enjoys stunning views of Cadair Idris and is ideally placed for walking, birdwatching and mountain biking. It is a 15 minute walk to the Cross Foxes Inn.

This traditionally presented cottage benefits from several modern conveniences, such as telephone, WiFi and oil-fired central heating.

Sitting Room: with comfortable seating, open fire (initial fuel supplied), flat screen Freesat TV, DVD player, WiFi and phone.

Kitchen Diner: dining area with table and six chairs and mountain views; white fitted kitchen with electric oven, ceramic hob, extractor hood, fridge with 3* freezer compartment and dishwasher. Door to rear porch, where there is a Utility cupboard with washing machine.

Bathroom: situated on the ground floor, with contemporary white suite; P shaped bath with electric shower over, WC, basin, shaver point, illuminated mirror, heated towel rail.

First Floor:

Bedrooms: three traditionally furnished bedrooms: double and full sized bunks with mountain views and a single overlooking the rear garden.

Outside: enclosed, lawned garden with barbecue and garden furniture and mountain views.

Parking: small layby space on the opposite side of the narrow lane.

Barmouth, a popular seaside town with long sandy beach and promenade, and Fairbourne, with beach and narrow gauge railway, are each about 12 miles away, either side of the Mawddach Estuary, with the Mawddach Trail providing fairly level walking and cycling. Nature Reserve at Penmaenpool, 5 miles, Coed-y-Brenin, for mountain biking and forest walks, about 10 miles away. This is an excellent location for touring the south Snowdonia National Park, mountains, lakes and stunning coastline, and an ideal base for climbing the mysterious Cadair Idris, Snowdonia’s second highest peak.

Exactly what it says on the tin, Garden Cottage is a traditional cottage which stands very much alone and acts as a perfect retreat and escape from the pace of modern life. While not the top choice for those after all the mod-cons, we were not and accordingly it served us perfectly. You will be woken by the sounds of sheep in the neighbouring field (preferable to city traffic I’d say!) and open the curtains to wonderfully mountain views. A little effort is required to get to the very heart of Snowdonia, but it is no great hardship and a variety of mountain walks, beaches and biking opportunities are all easily accessible. We also found the owner very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We are sure we’ll be back.
