North Beach

Visit Tenby North Beach and you’ll discover a glorious expanse of golden sand stretching out beneath the dramatic backdrop of the town's historic walls and the iconic Goscar Rock. It's a beach with something for everyone, making it a must to visit during your Tenby holiday. 

The vast stretch of sand along North Beach is perfect for those who love to spread out and enjoy some space. The beach's gentle slope into the clear waters makes it generally safe for swimming, though it's always wise to check local tide times and any warning signs.  

For those seeking a little more activity, the beach is a popular spot for water sports, including paddleboarding and kayaking. The views from North Beach are also simply stunning, offering panoramic vistas of Carmarthen Bay and the offshore islands.  

Amenities are conveniently located nearby, with cafes, shops, and restrooms within easy reach. Dogs are allowed on North Beach, but restrictions apply during certain times of the year (between 1 May and 30 September). The mix of beautiful scenery and conveniences makes North Beach a fantastic choice for a classic seaside day out in Tenby.

South Beach

Tenby South Beach is a stunning stretch of sand, often lauded as one of the finest in Wales. Its sheer size is impressive, curving gently for over 2 miles towards the neighbouring village of Penally. Backed by cliffs and dunes, you’ll find it a sheltered bay, that’s picturesque too.

This vast expanse provides ample space for everyone, whether you're looking to spread out your towel and sunbathe, enjoy a game of volleyball, or take a long walk along the shoreline. The golden sand is perfect for building sandcastles and burying your toes, and it’s a great spot for families; you’ll also find the water is generally safe and calm.

Sit back and enjoy the breathtaking views, which encompass the sweep of Carmarthen Bay, the dramatic cliffs of the coastline and the charming town of Tenby itself. While South Beach offers a more natural and less commercial feel than North Beach, there are still amenities conveniently nearby, including cafes and ice cream kiosks.

Due to its size, Tenby South Beach rarely feels overcrowded, allowing you to truly relax and enjoy the beauty of the Welsh coastline.

Tenby Harbour Beach

This petite and charming sandy bay is nestled within the heart of Tenby's bustling harbour, making it an incredibly convenient location for those exploring the town and offering a quick escape to the sand without venturing far. Set between the harbour walls, the beach enjoys a sheltered setting, providing calm waters ideal for paddling and splashing; it is especially good for families with younger children, looking for a seaside pit-stop. 

Due to its size and location, Harbour Beach isn't typically the first choice for those seeking a full day of sunbathing. Space is limited and it can get busy, particularly during peak season. However, its sheltered waters make it a popular spot for children to play safely, building sandcastles and enjoying a paddle. 

The immediate proximity to the harbour means amenities are readily available, with cafes, ice cream shops and restaurants just a stone’s throw away. This makes it a great option for a quick beach break during a day of exploring Tenby, offering a chance to wiggle your toes in the sand and enjoy the harbour atmosphere without straying too far from the town's attractions.

Tenby Castle Beach

Nestled between the harbour and Castle Hill, you’ll find Tenby Castle Beach, a pretty, sheltered cove, known for its calm waters; it’s a popular place for families. The location of this little cove is very unique, with the imposing ruins of Tenby Castle overlooking the sands and the bustling harbour just a stone's throw away.  

The sheltered nature of the cove also means it's often warmer than the larger beaches − there’s little wind to whip around you − perfect for those who like to sunbathe. The golden sand is soft, ideal for building sandcastles and the views are simply stunning, with the castle providing a dramatic backdrop.  

Visit Castle Beach and you can expect a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere, compared to the larger North and South beaches. It's a great place to escape the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful day by the sea.

Thanks to its central location, you’ll find plenty of handy amenities nearby; being set next to the harbour, you'll find a wide range of cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs within easy walking distance. Enjoy a family day on the beach before grabbing supper on your way home.

Penally Beach

Penally sits at the far end of Tenby South Beach and whilst technically it’s set along the same stretch of sand, this pretty coastal gem offers a very distinct charm of its own. Backed by dunes and Tenby Golf Course, it offers a more secluded atmosphere. Penally Beach tends to be less crowded than the main Tenby beaches, making it the ideal choice for those seeking a more relaxed experience. 

The beach features a wide expanse of golden sand, which is ideal for sunbathing and building sandcastles, whilst the backdrop of dunes − and the historic golf course − all add to its appeal. Sit on the sand and soak up breathtaking views out towards Caldey Island or wait until dusk and enjoy a spectacular sunset.  

Penally Beach also offers opportunities for exploration; at low tide, you can explore the rocky areas that emerge, perfect for rock pooling, or take a walk along the headland at Giltar Point for breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline.  

A big bonus is that Penally welcomes dogs all year round, making it a fantastic choice for dog owners. Your canine companion can enjoy a good walk, run and swim in the sea any time of the year.
