A superb romantic retreat set within a complex of holiday properties in the shadows of Goodrich Castle’s ruins. Converted from a 14th-century building, this delightful home is brimming with character and atmosphere, with exposed stone walls and beamed vaulted ceilings.

Venturing inside this reverse level property, you will find the bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor. The grand bedroom has an ornate double bed and a stone wall and is a comfortable spot to get your head down after a busy day exploring the Wye Valley. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, and a WC. Climb the stairs to the first floor where the practical kitchen has everything you need to rustle up tasty meals, and you can eat together at the dining table set in front of the feature wall. Once you are ready to put your feet up, enjoy a night in front of the warming wood burner on the lounge’s comfortable sofa. Outside are shared gardens that you are free to explore. Lined with mature shrubs, the large lawn spaces have plenty of places to enjoy a picnic, or sit on the benches and watch the world go by.

Goodrich is a quaint little village set on the River Wye where you can explore heritage at the castle, or enjoy eating at one of the several restaurants here. Try out fishing on the river or take a long walk along its banks. Coppett Hill (1.5 miles) is a fabulous climb that overlooks the Wye Valley. Further afield, you have the ancient hillfort at Symonds Yat (3.5 miles), or the pretty market town, Ross-on-Wye (4 miles).

We stayed in the one bedroom Kerne accommodation. Spotlessly clean, with a very large and comfortable bed. Friendly staff and the cakes in the on-site cafe were to die for. Located closer to the road than I had expected but not overly busy and unable to hear any traffic at night. Able to walk our dog in the enclosed fields next to the property nextRead more to the river. A very short drive to the lovely Symonds Yat. Hide

Couldn't believe the beautiful building we have stayed in . Its quirky features are what makes this stay so wonderful. We will be back and we will bring friends. However if your taste is modern and bland just don't come , let others enjoy and love this place as much as us! Jacqui, Derek and Ruby

A lovely flat in an old building so be prepared for wonky floors etc. We were expecting this and loved it for that. Bathroom and kitchen facilities were nice and provided a lovely base for a few days relaxing

We stayed for a week and cannot fault it. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was powerful and the upstairs kitchen/living room was awesome. Will definitely be booking again.
