Llanidloes Cottages

The first town on the River Severn with a population of some 2,300, the half-timbered market hall dating from around 1600 stands at the crossroads of the four streets of the original medieval town. The Bryntail Lead Mines are a reminder that the area was once important for the mining of lead and silver.

A mountain road connects the town to Machynlleth and passes Llyn Clywedog dam and reservoir and the nearby Hafren Forest trails. Majestic views across Mid Wales and a 72m high dam holding back 50,000 megalitres of water make Llyn Clywedog one of the most spectacular visitor sites.
