Dog and Pet Friendly Cottages
As a member of your family your dog should also be able to come with you on holiday and with Wales Cottage Holidays, they can! Nearly half of our beautiful cottages accept at least one pet, with many accepting 2 or even 3 dogs. At most of our cottages there is no charge for one pet, but there may be a small charge for more than one. Some of our Pembrokeshire cottages make a charge of £20 per pet per week.
Our pet-friendly cottages all over Wales make your holiday even more fantastic, especially because your pet can go on days out with you and the rest of your family. Best beaches for dogs in Wales With over 870 miles of Welsh coastpath to explore, why not take your faithful dog to a day out at the beach?
A large majority of beaches throughout Wales accept pets all year round; however some of the more popular beaches do have some dog restrictions, normally between April and September. In North Wales, a perfect beach for families and pets is Traeth Llydan, which is found to the south of Rhosneigr in Anglesey.
The beach has no restrictions for dogs at all, meaning he/she, as well as your family, can enjoy the spectacular 1.5 mile’s worth of sand that the beach offers. For that extra bit of exercise for your dog, take them running through the sand dunes that surround the beach. If you’re already in the area, be sure to visit the nearby Maelog Lake. As a natural wildlife area, please keep your dog on a lead whilst walking along the tranquil footpath.
If you would prefer to visit South Wales, take a walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and come across the remote Aber Mawr Bay beach where dogs are always welcome. If you try and visit the beach at low tide, you will see a number of tree stumps buried in the sand where a forest used to stand over 8,000 years ago! The fascinating history and spectacular scenery means the walk to Aber Mawr bay is definitely worth the trip.
For Mid-Wales, the town of Aberystwyth has two fantastic beaches – aptly named North and South beach. Due to both beaches being very popular with families, there are dog restrictions in place between May and September. Nestled in Cardigan Bay, the area is well known for the largest population of bottle-nosed dolphins in Europe – about 250 altogether!
Sometimes you can see the dolphins from the shoreline, but for a closer experience take one of the many boat trips running all along the Bay. Some boats even allow dogs on board, ensuring the whole family can get the opportunity to see these magnificent mammals. Our extensive page on Beaches gives all the relevant details you need, including if dogs are welcome on beaches throughout the country. Have a look and ensure the local beach to your holiday cottage is ideal for you and your four-legged friend. Best walks for dogs in Wales As well as visiting our award-winning beaches, you can also stroll miles and miles along Wales’ walking trails.
Wales is the first country in the world to have a formal walking trail all the way around its coastline – that’s 870 miles altogether making it perfect for joining your dog on their favourite activity! As well as the path being recognised as having national importance for its spectacular scenery and historical features, a part of the walk named the Pembrokeshire Coast Path has been voted by the National Geographic magazine as the second-best coastal destination in the world.
Wales also has the longest river walk in Britain – the Severn Way. The river Severn starts 2001ft above sea level to the east of Plynlimon, and finishes 210 miles further on when it reaches the sea at Bristol. The first 12 miles of the walk descends 420 metres, and then evens out a bit more for the remainder of the trail, taking you through the unspoilt countryside of Mid Wales, before crossing into England.
